Dandelion Park

Concept Plan for Dandelion Park (PDF document)

On June 9th, 2010 The Molly Fitzgerald Memorial Fund gave Dandelion Park to the town of Marshfield, a gift to honor all who have died too soon. Located in downtown Marshfield, Dandelion Park was a project of the Molly Fitzgerald Memorial Fund that began with the vacant, overgrown lot and the ruins of an abandoned gas station at 1869 Ocean Street and ended with a beautiful green space that is lined with commemorative bricks, beautiful landscaping, a water fountain and more memories and stories of lost loved ones than can ever be recounted.

The name Dandelion Park originated from Molly’s love of dandelions. She declared that June 9th was to be Dandelion Day, a day to spend with the people you love.  We don’t know why Molly adopted the Dandelion as her favorite flower but she made recognizing the dandelion a personal cause, celebrating June 9th as “Dandelion Day” and telling her friends and family to have a “Dandy Day”. After receiving a plaque from the Molly Board of Directors commemorating the turnover of the park to the Town, the Marshfield Board of Selectmen declared June 9th to be Dandelion Day in Marshfield. Molly would have been very pleased by that!

The park has become a busy center of activity for the Town and for the Molly Board. We provide all of the ongoing maintenance for the Park, funded in part through the sale of memorial bricks that line the walkways of the Park. Bricks can be purchased to honor loved ones through our website.  We also host several events, including Stories in the Park (a reading program for children) every Tuesday evening throughout the summer months, pumpkin carving at Halloween and our tree lighting ceremony which has quickly become a Marshfield Holiday tradition.

Dandelion Park was created through the hard work and physical labor of many individuals and the kind generosity of several Corporations. Although now officially a green space of the Town of Marshfield, the Molly Fund continues to maintain the property and provide for the upkeep of the Park.  Donations to the Park can be made through this website or by mail at
